We Are A Favorite Place on Google Maps

This week we received a window decal and letter from Google stating that SMX Design has been selected as a “Favorite Place” in Google Maps. Ok, great! Now what? After a bit of research we found exactly what this is all about!

Stickers bearing Google’s logo and a QR code have been distributed to 100,000 of the most popular businesses in Google’s Local Business Center database, and starting this week consumers will be able to use code-scanning applications on modern phones to look up the Google listing for that particular restaurant, store, or dry cleaner. Shoppers or customers who happen to walk by your store or location can scan the sticker to bring up the business’ Place Page with listing information as well as reviews, photos, and links to sites with more information about the business.

The stickers will be prominently displayed in store windows of participating businesses and if you are a business owner one should be stuck to the inside of your window as well.

If your business is NOT included in Google Maps, we encourage you to include it immediately. If you are already a client of SMX Design, no worries, we already registered your company along with your website as part of your design package.

SMX Design Launches Client Viewable Test Server

SMX Design is proud to announce the launch of a new test server that will be used for designing, building, and completing the overall construction of our client’s web sites. The new server is running on a new hosting technology called “grid hosting”. Multiple servers work together to keep up with the demand of sudden increases in traffic levels or bandwidth surpluses. Clients can watch the progression of their web design in real time as coding and graphical changes are being implemented, keeping them involved in the project. In the near future, we also plan on storing a backup copy of every clients website on the new server.

Search Results Bring Traffic To DownTime & Wellers

It seems as each day passes, more and more search engine traffic is reaching this pair of websites. Recently, Weller’s Chimney Sweeps made the most improvements as the site emerged as the #11 Google result for the keyword “chimney lightning protection” and #10 for “how often should my chimney be swept?”

The DownTime Salon and Spa website received roughly 130 unique visitors this past weekend for the Google Result “DownTime Salon” in which it ranks #1.

The Future Of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)

Cascading Style Sheets allow designers to dynamically enforce colors, backgrounds, page widths, and font sizes keeping a website’s design consistent no matter how many pages it may contain. Just about every element in a Wordpress design is controlled by a style sheet allowing design changes to be made more effectively and more precise.

I found a great article that discusses the importance of the CSS language and where its concepts are headed in the near future.

The future of CSS is arriving fast, and many tools, languages, and solutions have been developed that make CSS a job not just for Web designers but developers, too. In many ways, the job could become more complex and confusing, but in many other ways, the new changes will provide more opportunity and better technology for the future of the Web.

CSS will get a number of new changes. Among them are alternative syntaxes, CSS programming concepts and the ability to allow more common design techniques without using images.
